Strategic Materials Advisory Council

The Strategic Materials Advisory Council was formed with the clear objective of responding to threats to the U.S. industrial base and the critical materials supply chain.  The Council will periodically convene to discuss important issues facing industry and to develop strategic and practical solutions to catalyze change. Advocacy efforts will extend beyond the Department of Defense to ensure that a whole-of-government approach is utilized to address the national security, international relations, economic, and environmental implications of this issue.  J.A. Green & Company’s extensive work with critical materials – including: rare earth elements, germanium, fluorspar, titanium, specialty steel and others – will assist in guiding the Council as it works to ensure U.S. access to critical metals, materials, and components.

Comprised of a group of former U.S. Government senior officials and industry leading experts, the Council aims to provide demonstrable change to the strategic and critical materials industry, serving as an outlet for support and a vehicle for policy change.   The Council will utilize its collective experience and first-hand knowledge of the supply chain to frame industry concerns and convey the importance of safeguarding our national interests to senior policy makers.

The overarching goal of the Council is to guarantee that the United States Government and U.S. industry have continued access to all strategic and critical materials needed to fuel a twenty-first century economy and supply a twenty-first century military.  The Council will seek to decrease U.S. dependence on potentially unreliable foreign sources of strategic and critical materials by continuing to work on a domestic development of resources.  Additionally, the Council will seek to recognize the important contributions and trading opportunities with key allied nations.  Utilizing its unique access to senior policy makers, the Council will encourage partnerships with both domestic industry and allied nations while promoting fair trade practices.
